REVIEW ASADO ARGENTINO 2014 See English version

We celebrated 50 years of existence with a nice asado / grill on 1st March
In the beautiful Battle Hill estate at Pauatahanui, on one of those beautiful days that Wellington's climate occasionally bestows upon us, we concluded our celebration of the 50 years that the Spanish and Latin American Club of Wellington has existed. For me, this event is always one of the highlights of our calendar. And it was a success as always. The "chef" “asador” on this occasion was Enio Cimarelli, owner of "Argentinean BBQ Ltd". Enio served us fine roast meat, sausages and pies . All very tasty . And thanks to H.E. Fernando Escalona, the Argentine Ambassador, some more empanadas appeared generously supplied by the Embassy.
I remember the first of these “Asados Argentinos” in which I participated on Saturday 5th March, 1988 . It was a hot day and was attended by many people. Juan Wilson then ran the Asados .
Now Juan and I are happy to enjoy Maestro Enio's food in peace and quiet! About 75 people attended, a good mix of Kiwis, Latin American, and Spanish . All declared themselves very satisfied and pleased with the environment and the food and the weather! Mr Escalona was accompanied by his wife, Mrs Marcela Ronderos Escalona, and also attending this event were the Brazilian Ambassador, H.E. Mr Eduardo Gradilone with his wife Ms Diva Gradilone, and also the Ambassador of Spain H.E. Mr Manuel de la Torre Viturro accompanied by his wife Ms Maria Socorro Vidal Costa.

“On 24th March 1964, according to the Evening Post, the first Asado was held on the property of Mr H. McCardle at Pauatahanui. Eight lambs were roasted. President George Parkyn presided and Mr Bottomley, who had spent time in the Argentine, roasted eight lambs over the open fire.
So, our tradition of starting the year with an Argentine Asado has a long history.”
